In 2026, our nation celebrates its Semiquincentennial—250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Maumee is joining communities across Ohio and the nation in commemorating this historic milestone with events, programs, and stories that honor our heritage and inspire future generations.

Ohio Goes to the Movies Mar 21, 2026, 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Maumee Indoor Theater, 601 Conant St, Maumee, OH 43537

Join us at the Maumee Indoor Theater for a Free screening of the film "A Man Called Otto" - filmed at the Amtrak Station in Toledo, then a post film discussion with Actor Peter Lawson Jones, and an update on the state of the film industry with our regional film commission, FilmToledo!

This red carpet event is free to attend, concessions will be available for purchase.

Step back into the golden age of rail travel as the Wolcott Heritage Center invites you to a special evening celebrating Ohio’s transportation history. As part of the America 250 Ohio Moves Transportation theme for April, Night at the Depot brings Maumee’s railroad past to life through lantern lit tours, hands on activities, and immersive storytelling.

Honoring Service, Preserving History May 23, 2026, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

As part of the May America 250 themes Ohio Creates and Ohio Serves, the Maumee Valley Historical Society invites the community to join us for a meaningful preservation project honoring those who served our country. We will gather at Riverside Cemetery to learn about Maumee’s veterans, explore proper gravestone care techniques, and participate in hands on restoration work.

Memorial Day Parade May 25, 2026, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Join us Memorial Day as our community gathers to honor the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed for our freedom. The Memorial Day Parade is a time to celebrate our honored veterans, reflect on their courage, and remember those who gave their lives in service to our nation. Bring your family, line the streets, and stand with us in gratitude and remembrance.

Before Ohio: A Battlefield Journey Through Fallen Timbers June 20, 2026, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

As part of the June America 250 theme Ohio Outdoors the Maumee Valley Historical Society will partner with Metroparks Toledo for a special day of exploration and historical interpretation at the Fallen Timbers Battlefield. Visitors will experience guided tours of the National Historic Landmark while learning about the people, places, and events that shaped the 1794 Battle of Fallen Timbers and its lasting impact on the Northwest Territory.

As part of the July America 250 theme Ohio Gathers, the Maumee 250 Committee will partner with the Maumee Uptown Business Association for their annual July 3rd Family Picnic.

History Goes to the Fair August 9, 2026, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

As part of the August America 250 theme Ohio Goes to the Fair, the Maumee 250 Committee will partner with the Maumee Uptown Business Association to participate in the annual Maumee Uptown Summer Fair. Visitors can stop by our historical booth to explore Maumee’s past, enjoy hands on activities, and learn about the people, places, and stories that shaped our community.

The Wolcott’s in 10 Objects September 13 and 20, 2026, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

In partnership with Ohio Open Doors, join us for a special behind the scenes tour, The Wolcott’s in 10 Objects. This unique experience will explore ten carefully selected artifacts that tell the story of the Wolcott family, their daily lives, their values, and their impact on Maumee. Each object serves as a window into the past, revealing how ordinary items can hold extraordinary stories.

October’s Maumee 250 theme, Ohio Foods and Farms, celebrates the agricultural traditions, foodways, and hands on skills that shaped communities across our state. In honor of this theme, we invite you to join us at the Autumn Market at the Wolcott Heritage Center for a special children’s history exploration event presented in partnership with the Maumee Valley Historical Society.

This interactive experience allows young visitors to step into the past and discover how everyday foods were made on early Ohio farms and in historic Maumee kitchens. Children will have the opportunity to try historical cooking and food making activities such as churning and molding butter using authentic period utensils, grinding corn by hand, and helping make old fashioned ice cream.
